The Bare Canvas - Gallery and Studio Co-op

The Bare CanvasGallery opened in 2007 as a co-operative gallery and resource centre. It is located in a graceful old bank building in the heart of picturesque Bear River, Nova Scotia.

This amazing building also houses a bike shop, the Rebecca Music Hall and Sissiboo Organic Coffee Roaster, all new editions to Bear River.

Bear River is known as the historic 'village on stilts' or 'tidal village'.
First a Mi'kmaq settlement, it was noted by Samuel de Champlain's surveyor Louis Hébert in 1611, for it's temperate climate, riverways and sizable trees.

As well as being a haven for tourists, wine and adventure enthusiasts, Bear River has the largest ratio of artists per capita of any
community in Canada.

The Bare Canvas Gallery supports and promotes many of these area artists by featuring their works in our galleries and shop as well as offering classroom and studio space. We have expanded this year to offer a community resource library in co-operation with ARCAC (Annapolis Regional Arts Council), as well as a community arts centre.
Our drop-in 'arts and crafts' area for children is available during all
open hours. New also this year is our beautiful sculpture garden.
